Glacier National Park, MT
The week before I was going on my trip to Whitefish, Montana (yes, you heard that right, MONTANA), mostly all of my co-workers looked at me like I was crazy. “Why would you go on vacation to Montana?!” I can’t tell you how many times I heard that phrase throughout the week. My normal answer was “well, I have family out there and my cousin is getting married.” That seemed to keep the conversation short and sweet and I never really heard much about my “vacation” to Montana that no one agreed with.
And I am here to tell you, it was one of the best places I have been in my entire life – and I can’t wait to go back.
Now, you are probably saying to yourself, “where in the world has this girl gone to be able to say that MONTANA is one of the greatest places ever??” And you wouldn’t be wrong to think that. However, I have been on many Caribbean vacations, a lot of traveling due to my competitive softball days, and I can tell you that nothing compared to Montana, USA in August.
I went to Montana with no expectations. I did no research (which is really not like me, at all!) and I had no actual plans for the week that we were going to be there. All I knew was the day of my cousin’s wedding.
Being from New York – especially Long Island, you can’t look more than a mile before seeing something –whether it’s a road, water, trees, buildings. My uncle picks us up from the airport and you can see for MILES. And I mean, MILES. I can see the mountains from so far away – I couldn’t even tell you how far away they actually were.
Glacier Park (and I didn’t even get to see a ton of it) is an amazing sight. Coming from someone who had never seen mountains like this – this was breathtaking.
- Lake McDonald (not too far from the entrance of the park)
- Horseback riding inside the park (this was fun as a beginner and newbie to Glacier, if you are an experienced rider I would not recommend)
- Avalanche Lake (I didn’t have enough time to do this trail but it is only a 2 mi. hike to a beautiful view!)
Moral of the story: If you ever have the chance to go to Glacier – do it! You will not regret it.
